Consent and Rules

Rules and things you must know:

  • Nawa Musubi is, first and foremost, a safe space for all.

  • We are an inclusive, LGBTIQ+ friendly space.

  • This space will not open its doors to consent violators, rapists or abusers for any classes, performances or events.

  • We do our best to create a gender neutral environment to learn in. Please let us know your preferred pronouns so that we can address you correctly.

  • Shibari and rope practice within this space will be of a non-sexual nature.

  • Full nudity is not allowed – bottom half needs to be clothed.

Models

The most important thing in this space is that models and riggers enter without any D/s or other dynamic. We expect to be able to address models directly in class and have them interact and be able to speak to any questions or concerns during the class.

We will not defer to the rigger for the models consent on any issue. In our space models take priority.

Consent must be given for any interaction:

Consent will be discussed at the start of each class. During this time please feel free to speak up if you have concerns or specific areas/topics you might also like addressed. During class, you will be asked to give consent to a bare minimum of interaction with rope between rigger and model by the teacher and those assisting (assistants will be announced at the start of each lesson). There is an expectation that teachers and advanced students will be able to interact with a model to help. Any physical contact between teachers and riggers/models will be purely for assisting with education. Examples:

  • How to dress a rope

  • How to move a model’s body

  • Assisting in line placements

  • How to find the best place for the wraps on the arms for individual  models

  • The pass requirements for a perfect TK being checked via untying by the teacher

If you wish to decline, or have a preference to who assists you, please let us know before class, or via a message before attending. We understand at times speaking about these things when being asked a direct question can be a concern (especially when bound in rope for a model) if you find yourself in this position (or already know this is something that affects you) a quick email or PM is preferred before the class day.

If a model is asked for consent when approached by the teacher or assistants and does not give a verbal consent to touch the ropes, at this point we will not interact. We will instead ask the rigger to continue under verbal instruction from the teacher.

Any non-consensual contact by anyone will not be tolerated. This includes involvement with other couples tying and the class model unless it is otherwise specified.  For example, the teacher might suggest you check specific tensions on the class model. This model will have either given prior consent for this or will be asked at that time. Please do not take offence if the model declines.

We will do our best to check each time before we interact with you, however, we do prefer this to be covered as a standard consent at the beginning of class as well. Please let us know immediately if you wish to withdraw consent for any reason, or if at that moment you would prefer not to have any interaction. We know for a model that this is a journey, and things can change at any time.

Non-consensual acts can include but are not limited to:

  • Inappropriate/unwanted physical contact

  • Conducting scene/sexual type ties in class (we love your kinky minds  but let’s keep this play for events, not within the classroom)

  • Full nudity (bottoms are a minimum clothing)

  • Using other people’s equipment/belongings without permission

  • Touching other models in class

The one and only time that consent will be ignored is if it is an emergency and we are unable to safely wait for approval to assist. This would be if a model faints in rope or any other safety concern that requires immediate action to assist. It will be at the discretion of the teacher, who might call on extra assistance at the time for additional strength or support in getting help for your model.

Anyone found to be violating these rules will be asked to leave the space.
